Rev. Dan Tayman has been a hospice chaplain with Ohio Living Hospice, which is based in Canfield, going on seven years, and doing hospice ministry since June of 2011. Prior to this, as an ordained minister, he pastored Bethel Assembly of God in Austintown and Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Howland. He received his bachelor’s degree in pastoral studies from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida and his Master’s degree in family ministries from nearby Malone University. Pastor Tayman has been privileged to be a part of mission trips to Mexico City (medical/dental), Asuncion, Paraguay (construction) and Dakar, Senegal (construction). He has been married to his wife, Tammy, for 34 years and has two adult children, both of whom live in Northeast Ohio.

His responsibility as a hospice chaplain is to provide spiritual support to the patient and their family-caregivers. A chaplain also works with a care team (nurse, aide, social worker, leadership, administration, field support and office support staff) and he takes this role seriously doing his best to supply encouragement and motivation for faith to be active in their daily routines of care. Another avenue of ministry for Chaplain Tayman is music therapy in the form of sing-along events to residents of nursing facilities and area adult day care programs. Working alongside other hospice care team members, Pastor Tayman enjoys celebrating birthdays and anniversaries of the patients under his care. Veterans also receive recognition for their military service with a certificate of appreciation and upon their passing, the family is given a flag display case with engraved nameplate. During the pandemic, as personal interaction with patients were limited due to health safety guidelines, Chaplain Dan became involved in delivering groceries to the homebound hospice and home health patients, bringing not just food but a smile and a prayer as well.
