(Youngstown, OH) The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is proud to announce that the recipient of their 2019 H.O.P.E. Award for Lifetime Achievement is Michael Currington, Warren Police Department.

This award was presented to Mr. Currington on April 12 at their annual Wine for Hope event at the Lake Club in Poland for being Honorable. Outstanding. Philanthropic and Excellent.   The event is held in order to honor area individuals that contribute so freely of their time and to raise money for chronically and terminally ill children & their families.

Currington join the ranks of past recipients Kathy Cook (2018), Raymond Marrow (2017), George Gabriel (2016), Jack Gocala, Sr. (2015) and the late Henry Nemenz (2014).His dedication and volunteer work in the community highlights her willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to make the quality of life better in our community. Mike is always willing to go the extra mile for anyone, bringing clothes and shoes to school for kids or just bringing them a snack. Mike also participates in the Polar Plunge every year at Mosquito Lake as they plunge into the freezing water to raise money for Special Olympics.

He has been involved as a “Bigs and Blue” for the past two years, which is a division of the Big Brother Wrap Around program. Mike has been a role model to a 4th grade student that has had a troubled past. He will take him to lunch, attend sporting events and whatever this young man will need to improve his quality of life. Mike just recently purchased this child a bicycle.Mike continues to bring clothes and shoes to school for the kids or simply brings them a snack. He was asked, “Why the food for the kids?”  His response was, “This might be the only thing that these kids eat for the day!” Mike recently cut his hair on a bet with a few of the high school kids. They challenged him to sport a “man bun” because they wear it better. Mike gladly accepted this challenge.

The evening was emceed by Mrs. Ohio 2016, Heather Fronk, who made the winning announcement. Other honorees include Ed DiGregorio, Rey Esparra, Ricky Pasco, Mackenzie Pasco, Corey Patrick & Deryck Toles.
